JEA lean case study | ↗︎ | management |
NO3 effluent spike on Mondays led to 67 week data collection and investigation. Fish processing station found to be out of operation on weekends - starving the treatment plant's microbes before Monday. To compensate, they reclassified biofuel byproduct waste (methanol and glycerin) as Nitro-Gone and added it during the weekends. Additionally, they implemented high temp (106F) side stream processing to garner more resistant 'super-microbes'. - 74 tons per yr of NO3 reduced from effluent - $6.57 per yr customer savings - $2.37 million per yr in Nitrogen credits (new reduced aggregate load reduces pressure on local municipalities and their limit obligation) |
